How’s this for a photo! Previously not seen online, these three workers are on Auchinraith Road, standing outside the former Auchinraith Primary School. Posing for the camera, this photo was taken between 1905 – 1910 and is therefore over 110 years old!
The men look like they’re carrying white work clothes, perhaps bakers or painters and so I don’t think they’re miners. Perhaps I’m mistaken and they’re carrying something altogether different? The stonework on the wall and indeed on the school behind still looks fresh and new, perhaps only a few years after the school opened in 1900.
I wonder who they are and if any of us reading this are related. Photographer was David Ritchie of High Blantyre.
