1927 Priory Bridge

1927 old road

Going back next to this smashing picture from 1927/1928. Pictured is the old road at Priory Bridge. It may be difficult to put this in context as its so completely changed. The modern road avoided this dangerous S bend and from the foreground heads now out the picture to the right.

Back then, traffic including trams went over the Priory Bridge, situated in the middle of the photo where the car is.  This picture looks in the direction towards Halfway. The Caldergrove West Lodge house is in the background on the right,  house still there today.

The roads are quiet to motorised traffic but this was the last couple of years of Blantyre trams, the tracks and standards still visible. The Caldergrove east lodge and entrance to the estate just out the picture to the left.

How this has ALL changed!
