1930 Village Schoolhouse

1929 Schoolhouse

A fantastic photo of the Village showing the former Schoolhouse on the upper slopes, taken around 1930. This was the final years for this building, which had doubled as a chapel/schoolroom for almost a hundred years.

The whole area was changing fast, the upper plateau beside it, levelled and cleared of homes at Waterloo Row which had burned down 2 years earlier. In the background, you can see the former tenements of Ulva Place. The foreground is the River Clyde.
