I was saddened to see the devastation caused today by a major fire at the Columba Club, Coatshill, Blantyre.
The fire started sometime around 3pm today, Sunday 12 May 2019, with emergency services responding shortly after. As the flames took hold, thick black smoke engulfed the building. Police closed off nearby streets as firefighters got the blaze under control. Some nearby residents were left without power.
Many people said their ‘goodbyes’ to this former club some time ago, but this destructive fire really does seal the fate of the building. Here’s just some of the photos people sent me today.
