British Cast Iron Research Association was a former third quarter 20th Century business once located at High Blantyre Industrial Estate, employing many local people.
Arriving in Blantyre in 1949, many of the employees were former miners and servicemen. The firm was part of a larger organisation base in Birmingham and they provided a highly technical and advisory service for the cast founding industry. Mr. A.N. Sumner was their manager.
In summer 1980, eleven high skilled jobs were lost a prelude to the company closing for good in Blantyre just before Christmas 1980. Uniquely, there had been no union at the factory, all employees stating what a great compay it had been to work for. The business is no longer there today.
Do YOU remember this company or perhaps even worked for them?
