Saint John Ogilvie School

This photo should bring back some memories for many people. It’s the old Saint John Ogilvie High School just over the boundary, into Hamilton. Many local Blantyre children attended this Roman Catholic School.

Elaine Speirs I have many happy memories of JOHS science block. Science classes were always my favourite. I remember my 2nd yr sciencd teacher setting fire to his sleeve with ethanol and a Bunsen. I also remember Jimmy Judge and his exploding can experiment. Very exciting. Kids would never get to do this stuff now.

  1. A remember Mr degnan setting his white coat on fire lol🤣 my name is wullie mcvey.

    1. Mr Degnan was one of the fun teachers. I always say it, the 1990 were the happiest years of the past 50 years!

We had schools like Ogilvie where you could feel the history of former pupils who walked through it’s corridors, most families had a disposable income and Techno music was a brand new kind of music that we had never heard of. The happy years!!

Thanks for sharing Paul, this picture is still one of the most highly commended one on the Old Ogilvie Facebook page.

      Garry,
