Miss May Sutherland, the Blantyre YMCA field Secretary, opened the YMCA Summer fete in 1967. The event took place in Stonefield Public Park and was well attended with many stalls.

Gerry Walker I remember back in the late 60`s early seventies a few of us from the YMCA would stay over in the football pavillion and set up early the next morning. Guys like Sandy Nesbitt, Stevie Boyle, John Cushley and a few others. By that time the Haliburtons were running the YMCA along with Jim Craig, who used to work in Craigs the Butchers.
