Leaning Postbox of Blantyre

If we can look beyond the rather ‘saucy” photo in the window of Tan Unique, you’ll notice of course that the pillar box has a remarkable lean, something that has been there since at least the 1970s.

This post box located near the former Benham’s shop and now beside Valerio Court was once outside Blantyre’s main post office in the early 20th Century.

Davy Thomson It’s been caused by people in Craig’s staggering oot and bumping into it over the years,, true story!!! Lol

Marian Maguire Ye# I believe it was always outside mickeys cafe, benhams was further up.

Blantyre Project you’re right. I thought it was outside the main Blantyre Post Office (prior to the 1930s) a little further up, but seems the postbox was situated down a bit from the former post office and outside Valerio’s rented building during that era. 1960’s maps show it still in that position. Have updated the post, thanks.

Margaret Liddle Probably the 263 bus coming round the corner off Glasgow Road had something to do with it x

Colin Dailly i thought it was because of buses also before they moved the current traffic stop line at the lights

Jim Cochrane It’s needing moved to the inside of the pavement. It’s a hazard now where it is.

Robert Crothers Good of you to get my poster in at the back ..thank you..

Wullie Stenhouse Looking good Boab
