Taken from High Blantyre behind the Church, this 1967 view looks across towards the former Dixon’s Pit, which is being removed in the background. The Kirkton Housing estate in the middle of the photo with County Buildings in the background. To the left the Manse wall beside Douglas Street. The house under the large tree is still there today, now with modern solar panels on and you’ll see the Hillhouse Road leading off towards the right.
This whole scene is hugely different now with modern homes on the fields and the Expressway cutting through where the dip is on the right.

Drew Fisher Thanks to Brian for sharing this picture. Great to see the land that was Whiteford’s farm.
Lon McIlwraith Great picture! Those fields and that bing were my boyhood playgrounds. The little dip between the fields running towards the houses was a small burn, now buried. Just visible under the “com” watermark is George MacDonald’s scrapyard, at the corner of Hillhouse Road and Sydes Brae.
