The cream of Blantyre’s young sports enthusiasts gathered in the town’s Miner’s Welfare at the end of September 1978. It was the annual prizegiving of the Miners Welfare Youth Club and that year saw a glittering display of medals and trophies, shields and cups donated from various businesses throughout the town.
Many of the trophies went to the clubs highly successful boxing section and there were well deserved awards for club footballers and the girls of the netball section. All the winners were treated to a slap up meal afterwards.
