Despite being only 12 years of age, Blantyre lass Susan McKie (pictured) was making her mark in a beauty contest in July 1978.
Susan of 95 Kirkwall Avenue had been on holiday at Pontins in Hemsby, England where she won Junior Miss Pontin’s Competition. The judges said they chose Susan because of her “cheerful and happy disposition, good dress sense as well as attractiveness.”
Susan won a suitable trophy and a prize of a nightdress case.
