In March 1978 Blantyre Civic Week and Gala Committee gathered together in the Miner’s Welfare to pick winners of their competition.
Members of the Blantyre Miner’s Welfare were each allocated a horse in the Grand National the previous week and on the first week in April, their winning tickets were turned into prize money.
Pictured left to right are Ann Duncan who won £51, Charles Neill the chariman of the civic committee, Mr Neil McLaughlan of the Miners welfare, Mrs Margaret McKenzie of 7 Greenway Lane High Blantyre who won £101, and James McBride of 89 Thurston Road.
