1942 Looking to the Village

1942 Braes looking over to Village wmThis wonderful photo shared kindly by Anthony Smith is the River Clyde at Blantyre.

Taken in World War Two during 1942 the view looks to the bend on the Clyde not far from the Village. High up on the hillside on the left are the villas of Rosebank Avenue and to their right, the tenements of Station Road and Ulva Place.

The small plantation on the left has grown massively and these days a substantial woodland covers these fields with limited access.

Linda F. Smith This would be the view my Mum had growing up. She lived on Rosebank Avenue with her Mum and Dad and two wee sisters.
The Blantyre Project what a wonderful place that must have been to grow up in! Now overgrown with young woodland, its strange to see just how steep the slopes were. Not the best location for sledging, although i bet many did!
