Four persons were injured in an alarming smash which occurred on the afternoon of Tuesday 26th October 1926 near Bardykes Colliery, about two miies from Blantyre , on the Glasgow-Blantyre road.
Two omnibuses were proceeding in the samo direction, and when the rear vehicle attempted to pass the other by overtaking when the driver was suddenly confronted with a motor car coming in the opposite direction, and a collision occurred.
The entire side of one of the buses was stripped off! Four Glasgow women—Mrs Paterson (49) , 99 Annfiold Street , and her 16-year-old daughter Janetta ; Mrs Sutherland (46) , 532 Duko Street ; and Mrs Neil (72) , of the same address were taken by ambulance to the Royal Infirmary suffering from bruises and shock.
Despite frightful damage to the bus, only the girl was detained in hospital beyond 1 day and after treatment, she recovered well. The Spittal Road was notoriously dangerous throughout the 20th century and claimed many lives.
