Pictured in 1905, is a fantastic old photo of Glasgow Road looking eastwards. To put this into context, the buildings on the right in the foreground would now be where the Clydeview Shopping Centre is.
In the last year or two, I’ve really started to get to grips with all the businesses and properties on Glasgow Road. Who owned them, who lived there, who worked there. It was something I’d put off for a long time as I knew it would be a massive undertaking to investigate this street. A detailed picture of commerce through vital business is now emerging, something that was desperately important to the proper functioning of Blantyre in that era.
