Satellite imagery has recently been updated on Google Earth for the Blantyre and Lanarkshire area. It brings the old imagery in 2009 and 2012 right up to date to Summer 2016, with some interesting changes to Blantyre, being explored here this week.
Take for example, this scene, just off Glasgow Road. A scar on the landscape of waste ground beside the current St Joseph’s Church Hall and Primary School. This was of course the location of the former older St Joseph’s Primary School, which was demolished in January 2016.
It really is a large piece of land, earmarked for retail and housing development. Ideally suited for a supermarket, there are rumours of Aldi coming to Blantyre in 2017, although this remains to be confirmed.
