Councillor Murray Tremble

murraytrembleIt is with sadness tonight I learned on the passing of former local Councillor, Murray Tremble, who fell asleep peacefully on Friday 20th May 2016. In previous days on 12th May, he had suffered a stroke. He was 81.

With the permission of his family, I have written a few words.

Murray was a popular Councillor of Blantyre who was integral in procuring many important projects for this town. A local Councillor for over 25 years for Hamilton District, he helped shape our community in an active role as “Chairman of Leisure and Recreation.” Projects he was involved in included bringing the much needed Sports Centre to Blantyre and many local clubs and halls, including Priestfield. Further afield he was involved in projects like the renovation of Chatelherault.

He was a strong Labour Party member for many years and active bowler at various clubs from the Blantyre Miners Welfare, Burnbank & Hamilton District Bowling Club and in latter years following his move to Larkhall, both the Larkhall and the Raploch Bowling clubs.

Murray is survived by his beloved wife of 56yrs Margaret and their 6 children Kay, David ,Colin, Alistair, Stuart & Kerry. He leaves behind 13 Grandchildren Lee, Zoe, Craig, Callum, Laura, Glen, Amie, Ruairidh, Cameron, Findlay, Afton, Evie & Deven and incredibly, 3 Great Grandchildren Tyler, Darcy & Teighan.

Son Stuart told us earlier this evening, “My dad was a great man in the local community and wider, never a man to mince his words he stood by firmly in what he believed in.”

My thoughts are with all of Murray’s lovely family this evening and I’m sure those of you who knew Murray and his accomplishments, will join me in offering your sympathies at this sad time.

A funeral service will take place at South Lanarkshire Crematorium on Thursday 26th May at 11:45am and thereafter at the Blantyre Miners Welfare.
