Pictured here in the late 1930’s in a photo which I recently bought on ebay, is a rare picture of the World Fountain at David Livingstone Centre, in all its new glory. I hadn’t seen this photo before encountering it on the auction site and was pleased to win with a bid of only a few pounds.
The photo shows a time before the Africa Pavilions, just how green the backdrop was. The fountain was given to the centre as a gift in 1935, by the wife of a former councillor, Mr. A.B Maxwell.
