High Blantyre Primary 1950

Thank you to Bill Duncan for sharing his school photo here. Bill told me recently, “This is my class photo from High Blantyre Primary School, the year, not sure, but circa 1950. I left primary school in 1952, this was my historical moment of fame year as I was presented with the Dux (top pupil) award. In the photo your uncle John is in the back row.  I can put a name to some of the pupils.”

Ian and Jim Gibson are twins, they stayed in Larkfield in the building directly opposite the Larkfield bar.” Bill was presented with Dux for 1951/1952 season, the prize coming from Blantyre Co-operative Society.

So knowing this is either 1949 or 1950, can you help Bill identify the missing boys and girls in this High Blantyre class?

On social media:

The Blantyre Project i’d love to hear of any other Blantyre DUX pupils, no matter what the year. There is an entry for dux pupils in a future book i’m writing, and it would be great to list as many as possible.

Margaret Nimmo Lehmann Not sure Paul, but it might have been Alan Whiteford (who became a Veterinarian) Class of 1962/63, his family owned the farm on Main Street – Priestfield Farm, I think, I asked you about that name not too long ago – still remember the big old tree and stone wall
