Whilst walking at Blantyre Priory in September 2015, I took this rather unusual photo of the tree roots near the small wall which once surrounded the Priory compound. The tree looks like its clinging on to the old Priory Stones, almost screaming “don’t touch these! They’re mine!”
The picture is actually quite typical of many trees at the Priory, sprouting out from the ruins, breaking them apart slowly using the force of nature, entwining themselves around and over the old stones. I fear Blantyre Priory is just a generation or two away from being lost to nature completely.
