During times of exceptionally fine weather (yes it did happen in Blantyre!), the County Council imposed hosepipe bans due to water shortages. Amongst them, on 27th August 1955, where it was prohibited to use a hose to water your garden or wash vehicles. The council imposed a fine of 5 pounds with officers patrolling to check.
Significant bans were also imposed in the 1970’s upon some fine Summer weather. What are your memories of Blantyre’s hosepipe bans?

Henry Hambley I seem to remember that 1976 was very warm and dry. So much that a government minister( Dennis Howell, I think) was given responsibility.
