The Rocksox

The Rocksox are a local Blantyre band. They were formed in Summer 2010 when the 2 original members Joe Rouse and John ‘the sox’ McSorley were fast approaching an outdoor gig in aid of charity at ‘The Hoolets’ pub in July of that year. (as seen on Youtube). Also with them was Jim Donnelly. The legend that was Wull McGuigan was another member of the band but had sadly taken ill 3 weeks prior to the gig and John had called Drew to see if he could help out for “just one day.” That day will be well remembered as a huge success, some said it was Blantyre’s T in the park.

A few weeks later the boys approached Iain Douglas who was then added to the line up on drums. Drew had spent 14yrs with cabaret/showband ‘3rd dimension’,while Iain used up his formative youth in ‘Midnite hour’. John was in the highly acclaimed ‘Psygo’ along with Joe for a number of years before deciding to put together THE ROCKSOX. Sadly their great friend and great musician Wull McGuigan passed away in 2014. Others, with the band along the way included Mick Black, Alan Thompson and Billy Taylor.

The band are well known in Blantyre and known to frequent several local pubs, of which the Westend Bar is a frequent venue.
