Pictured here in the 1880’s is High Blantyre. To be more precise at Main Street looking towards Kirkton. This rare photo may look like a couple of others i’ve posted here, but I assure you it is a different one. You can see how young the trees are within the kirkyard by comparison to today. A stone wall runs along Main Street where the entrance to Lomond View flats are now. This picture is also a good record of the buildings at the former School Lane. (Now Schoolhouse Lane)
The Old Parish Church steeple is recognisable in the background as late Victorian figures walk along the crest of the road, where now are sets of traffic lights. All buildings are demolished with the exception of the one storey little cottage on the left and of course the church itself.
