Pits, Ponies, People and Stories Aug 2015

Out this week is a fantastic new children’s book called, “Pits, Ponies, People and Stories.”

Its a project that has taken over 2 years to develop involving many hundreds of children and volunteers. It is beautifully illustrated and written in a way children will understand. Bound with a quality hardback cover, it tells the mining heritage of South Lanarkshire, including stories, poems and pictures about Blantyre.

I received my copy last week (thanks to a particular councillor for sending me it out by post !; ). You can get YOUR copy for FREE, simply by picking it up at the David Livingstone Centre.

  1. I would love to receive a copy of this children’s book Pits, Ponies, People and Stories but I live in Kent, England. Being a frail doddery 85 year old makes a visit to the David Livingstone Centre impossible. I am happy to pay any postage.

My interest is because my ancestors were coal miners in the area.

    1. HI Alan. Thanks for your message. This book unfortunately isn’t available from David Livingstone Centre anymore after the National Trust for Scotland left and handed management of the museum and gift shop over to others. I’m not too sure where it can be bought now, but will try to find out more. Sorry.

      1. Hi Paul,

Many thanks for your reply. If you can establish how I can purchase a copy I would be most obliged.

        Regards,
        Alan
