High Blantyre Railway Station stopped its passenger service in 1945, perhaps as a casualty of immediate post war cuts and transformation of the UK’s infrastructure. Gordon Cook recently sent me some examples of High Blantyre Station passenger tickets. The colourful tickets, some used, others still with the return stub intact, travel between High Blantyre and Gourock.
Remarkably, also attached is a dog ticket, permitting the travel of dogs out of High Blantyre train station. (How I like that idea!). On the reverse, some ground rules are set out. In times before mass car ownership, I can quite imagine a High Blantyre family taking their children and dog out on a Summer day trip to Gourock and back again.
