1950s View of Blantyre Weir

1950s View of Blantyre Weir, spanning the width of the River Clyde, this was taken from then (then new) Memorial Bridge. Every time I see photos of the weir, whatever the season, I’m reminded of how dangerous it can be. What are your memories of the weir? On social media, the following comments were received:

Alan Baird : “I’ve always wondered what the wee bit on the left was , the wee bit that looks like a waterfall , the whole thing reeks of danger too iv never much been into swimming in the river , i like to know that i can put my feet down and reach the bottom”
Robert McLeod-Wolohan : “I used to go fishing there with my son many years ago, then the salmon started to go back up it again, now u need a permit to fish there and thats sad.”
