David Livingstone Memorial Guidebook

A 4th Edition of the David Livingstone Guidebook

A 4th Edition of the David Livingstone Guidebook

Neil Scott recently shared a photo of his copy of the David Livingstone Memorial Guidebook. David Livingstone Centre, opened by her Majesty Queen Elizabeth (as her Royal Highness The Duchess of York) on 5th. October, 1929. When opening, she said, “It seems most appropriate that the birthplace of this great Scotsman should be a memorial to his achievement as a Missionary and a Pioneer.”

These little booklets are mass produced and marked at the top left what edition they are. The more rarer 1st Edition copies could be worth some money now. My own copy is the same as Neils, a fourth edition which may have dated from the 1940’s.

The price is noted as 3d, and inside features a lot of detail about the buildings, the story of how they got there, Livingstone himself and the attractions in the grounds.
