From 1924, “Sheriff Shennan, at Hamilton yesterday, imposed a fine of £75 on Alexander Dunbar Nicholson, who admitted having had an illicit still in his premises at 30 Station Road, Blantyre. Accused’s house was raided at midnight by the police, and the Fiscal stated that with the apparatus which was found the Revenue could have been defrauded of several thousands of pounds a year. Accused declared he had been the tool of others, who had induced him to let them put their stuff in his cellar, and then threatened to report him to the police when he asked for the payment he had been promised. “
