Two great photos of family farming life captured in the mid to late 1960’s. Shared here by Jim Cochrane, he adds, “My Gran Annie Marshall having an afternoon nap with her cats in the Kitchen at Calderside,During the Late 60s. She was up at 5.30 every morning 7 days a week to help with the milking, she would also have calves to feed and lots of other chores as well as housework and making the breakfast Dinner and tea for the family and any other workers that were helping out.
The second photo. My Grandfather John Marshall in listening to the Radio in the Kitchen at Calderside in the mid to late 60s.No carpets and a granite floor, Think they had a TV by this time but it wasnt on much as it took ages to heat up and get a good picture. They only got electricity in 1960 and had an outside toilet untill 1969.No bathroom ever but a tinbath in the dairy with hot water from the steam boiler.”
