George Park of Arbroath emailed over this great family photo, taken in 1957 at the Pech Brae.
Ever so smartly dressed is his brother Robert, late sister Shirley, mother May and George himself on the right. George told me, “Here is the Peth Brae as I remember it as a child in 1957. In those days it was not unusual for a boy to have a knife, and you may notice, Robert proudly displays his new sheath knife. I think it cost him around 7/6d. which would be 37.5 pence in new money. Today you would be arrested for carrying such a thing.”
The cottage at the bottom of the Peth Brae is now demolished, but how great to see it so clearly. Neatly kept, whitewashed and tended.
