You may have seen this postcard before, and I’m not in the habit of repeating content on this site, but if you look closely, the postcard has been remastered and is probably the best quality found online.
The work is the effort of George Park, who visited my home with his mother and aunt in January 2015. We got round to talking about postcards and how with some work, old photos and postcards can be restored to an excellent quality. This postcard from 1915 of Barnhill had been doing the rounds, but was faded and tired. Now, it has been restored, scanned in high resolution and worked upon.
George showed me how it is possible to zoom in to some incredible detail on these postcards, for example the stonework or detail on the road itself. Sometimes the pictures gave up other interesting finds when zoomed in, such as dates on gable ends of buildings. Its with sincere thanks, I update the archives with this preserved photo.
