1874 Mineral Line plans to Larkfield Pit 4

This fantastic document from October 1874, was recently shown to me by Blantyre man Robert Brownlie. It is the Caledonian Railway’s planning drawing from October 1874 for extending a mineral line directly from the Larkfield Colliery (number 4 pit), along what was eventually to become Burnbrae Road and connecting in with the main Hamilton railway line at a point which later became the junction of Burnbrae Road and Victoria Street.

The colliery was fairly new at that time ad the railway line cut through Blantyre itself directly to High Blantyre. This was before the railway line opened to East Kilbride, i.e before the green hall pillars were built.
