Jim Cochrane sent in this wonderful aerial view of Calderside Farm, near Sydes Brae.
Jim contacted me in mid November 2014 commenting, “Aerial View of Calderside farm Late 1950s early 1960s,think its after the Electricity was first installed in 1960 but not sure. Calderside Farm would have been a big farm in its Heyday and had the Biggest farm Steading of any Farm in Blantyre Parish. The stables were big enough for 3 pairs of horses which gives an indication of the Size. It was built in 1746.
This would always have been the outline and layout,as it still is today. The original byres and building at Calderside could house 75 Dairy cows which would have been a huge amount to hand milk every day. Basket Farm was the biggest Farm arable area wise in Blantyre parish but had nowhere near the same size steading.”
