1946 John Duncan Military Leave

Dating from January 1946, this certificate belonged to my grandfather , John Duncan. It is his leave certificate, releasing him from Army service.

The certificate described his military conduct as “Exemplary”.

His testimonial states, “Of excellent character, sound, reliable, trustworthy and way loyal worker with keen sense of duty. Quiet disposition with dry sense of humour.”

We live in different times, blessed by not having to be sent off to war. This was my reminder of how difficult it would have been to be sent away from family and in such dangerous conditions.
