I love playing around with old and new images of Blantyre. Overlaying the two together, seeing exactly how thing’s have changed, and why. This latest photo takes an old 1905 photograph of High Blantyre Main Street and combines it with a present day photograph, courtesy of Google Earth. The result is quite surprising. Main Street has changed so much at the top end at Kirkton, near Carrigans, and indeed right down to the shops. From the shops, the tenements still remain today.
The old tree pictured a hundred years ago is noticeably much younger. It’s a shame the old walls are gone now too.
