1910 School Photo Blantyre

Pictured is a pre-school early photograph taken in 1910 of Blantyre schoolchildren on a field outing. The photo is over 100 years old and on the front right at only 3 or 4 years old is my Grandmother, Mary Danskin who later became Mary Duncan.  (1907-1997). Unfortunately, i’m not sure which school it was, but she did go to school in Low Blantyre, until she was a little older and went to St John’s in Hamilton. The teacher looks very strict and dressed for outdoors. I notice there are no males, going back to the days when school kids were segregated at either part of the building into male and female. Gran later started a tailor’s dressmaking business which was located in the shop in Stonefield Road. She sold up in the 1940s and bought her home in Stonefield Crescent. The shop she had was called Danskins, but which we know currently as Collins newsagents.
