  • I wonder if you can help. I’m looking for monumental inscriptions for High Blantyre Cemetery. I have a relation who died in WW1, Cunningham Gray, he is on High Blantyre War Memorial but I wondered if he is mentioned on his parents headstone. Cunningham was born in Virginia but the family returned to Hamilton the Blantyre in 1900 when he was 9 months old. His mother dies in childbirth in 1900. James Gray was born in Catrine in 1864 and died at Forestfield, 176 Main Street, High Blantyre. James remarried Catherine Barbour or Frame in 1900, she died in 1936 at the same address. I’ve been searching for years for a photograph of Cunningham to no avail but we visited his grave in France a couple of weeks ago. I know his brother, David Custer Gray is buried in Hamilton West Cemetery. I hope you can help. Thanks so much for taking the time to read this and if you need any more information then please let me know. Kind regards. Lorna Conaghan
