My great great grandfather was James Coats of Blantyre, Scotland. He and his family left Scotland in the 1850's for Canada and New Zealand.

Why did they all leave Scotland? What can you tell me about there occupations, and where they lived in Blantyre. I would greatly appreciate any information you might be able to give me.
