My grandparents lived at The Chestnuts, Auchinraith Road, Blantyre. They were James Laing born 1869 in Whifflet and Jane (Jeanie) Clark born 1865 Tollcross. Jane died in 1916, James remarried also in 1916 to Lily Wright when living at The Chestnuts. James was a mine undermanager and the son of another James who died in the Blantyre mining disaster in 1877.
at the time of his first marriage my great grandfather lived at 18 Hunthill Blantyre. I live in Gloucestershire and wondered if these properties still exist? My grandfather Thomas Ellsworth Laing was born 18th April 1891 at Hall Street Blantyre, I think at no. 108 But the record is difficult to read. My father another James Laing who I never met was born 5th Oct 1918 at 84 Stonefield Rd, Blantyre. All the best, Paul Thompson
