Hello,
I am engaged in family research and on my maternal side their was a family that seems to have spent most of their time in the Lanarkshire area. Ann Short (b. about 1833) married (maybe?) John Briton around 1851. There were three children, Mary Jane (b. 1851), John (b 1857) and Margaret (b 1855). They spent some time in the Monklands Poorhouse (ca 181857-1860) and Ann died 10 JANUARY 1891, Causewayshot, Blantyre, Lanarkshire. Ann was listed as "traveller" and head of household in the 1871 Census. Not sure what happened to the husband, John.
