Hello again, Paul.
Back in 2016 I emailed you an item about 'Mrs Elza Reid, Blantyre' and her winning ways in the Glasgow Herald chess problem competitions.
Enquiries since then suggest the following lady as a strong candidate, and I am wondering if I could therefore make another appeal for information on your web site.
Eliza Jane Kirkpatrick born March 30, 1883 in Dennistoun area of Glasgow. Her name appears that way on her birth registration.
In 1914 she married John Reid, grocer's assistant, born 1886 in Stevenston, Ayrshire, in Glasgow. Name shown as Elizabeth Kirkpatrick.
The 1935-36 Macdonald's Scottish Directory and Gazetteer shows Reid, J. with a grocer's shop at 36 Glasgow Road, Burnbank. It is also listed in the 1939-40 edition.
Valuation Rolls for 1935 Blantyre show:-
John Reid, House 21, School Lane
John Reid, 'Noslien', 317 Glasgow Rd
(A third John Reid can be discounted - he died in 1937, married to a Susan)
For 1940:-
John Reid, 7 Monteith Place

As I live in Canada I have no access to Electoral Rolls, so unable to confirm if an Eliza/Elza/Elizabeth lived at one of these addresses.
As indicated earlier, Mrs Reid was shown to have moved to Innellan, Argyll by May 1953.
John Reid died February 8 1963 at 'Bracklinn', Erichtbank Drive, Kirn, Argyll. Death registration shows him as a Master Grocer.
Elizabeth Jane Reid died July 9 1967 at the same address.
It appears there may have been no children; the witness to both deaths was a S. Kirkpatrick, Eliza's brother.
The last reference to Mrs Reid at Innellan in the Glasgow Herald columns was May 1958. Perhaps she later moved to Kirn (unless I am on the wrong trail).
Some born 'Eliza', who later uses Elizabeth, could also have been called Elza.
