Hi! I have come across your website while looking for information on a big chunk of my family who lived in Blantyre for at least 4 generations until my great grandfather came to the USA.  I can see on an 1841 census that my 4th Great Grandfather Robert Cameron is listed as living at Front Row West End with his wife Isobele (nee Devine) and their son James and a young girl named Shusan Morrison.  In the 1851 census Isabella Cameron is listed as living there on her own in the Fore Row as a pauper formerly farm servant.

In the 1861 census Isobella is listed as living there as Isabella Divine with her son Robert Cameron in 9 Front Row.  Robert is listed as a Labourer.  James Cameron is also living there at this time at 9 Front Row as a Cotton Spinner with his wife Sarah (nee McKenzie) and their children James, Margaret, John and a woman Janet Strachan.

Later James and his wife Sarah are listed as living there on the 1871 census in Front Row No 1 and James is listed as a Cotton Spinner still. There are children Mary, John, Duncan and Fanny are also listed as living with them with a young man named John Dougall.  I believe that this is the same John and Sarah as the 1861 census. There are a few other census records consistent with this to indicate that three generations of my family lived here until they finally left Scotland.

Their son John who was born 19 March 1857 in Blantyre is my 2nd Great Grandfather.  He is listed as living in Cross – Row as a dye worker in the 1881 census with wife Janet Cameron (nee Revie) and their son James who was only a year old.  They then appear to show up on the US Census of 1900.  My great grandfather Robert was born in 1888 and it is unclear if he was born in Blantyre – but his birth certificate says he was born in Scotland and I would really just like to know more about them and maybe even see where they lived.  I have done some searching for these buildings but haven’t had much luck.
