BREAKING NEWS: CRIME
Drive By Assault Main Street

Reports are unfortunately coming in of an attempted stabbing/assault on Main Street during broad daylight.

At exactly 2.50pm today, Friday 20th July 2018, a young man and his mother were standing at the bus stop on Main Street, near the former Matts Bar, High Blantyre.

A speeding car, veered off up the path and hit the bus stop, with 2 males getting out, who proceeded to attack the man. His mother made attempts to fend them off. The two males, got back in the car and sped off.

The matter is being dealt with by police. Although the individual was beaten up, a knife (thought to have been unused) was observed by witnesses during the scuffle. The assaulted man walked off in the direction of the shops at Main Street.

There were several witnesses to the incident and it's understood that a black 2 door ASTRA car has been reported to police along with information and descriptions. Do you know more? You can report who did this to Crimestoppers on Police 101.

Update 3:50pm Police have now arrived on the scene and taped off parts of the street and nearby property.

Clydeview Shopping Centre (East) - Demoition Day 2

Metre by metre, moving westwards, the Clydeview Shopping Centre demolition continues. Contractors, using a "Central Demolition" machine are on their second day today, Friday 20th July 2018, tearing down the steel and blockwork property, owned by Asda.

Today, they're up to the former RBOS unit, which can be seen to the left of our video. Already , a noticeable difference can be seen also from Glasgow Road, with Low Blantyre taking on a very different appearance. The buildings within the white hoarding are all scheduled to be pulled down and being such a monumental event for us all, we'll be keeping you updated on progress.

ADDRESSING BLANTYRE'S POTHOLES
Carriageway Defects

Following our recent article inviting discussion on Blantyre Potholes, we've taken your complaints and compiled them into a priority list and sent it to South Lanarkshire Council.

On behalf of the community, we've written to the Council's Roads Department asking for their attention and swift action for some of the worst carriageway defects in our town.

Over 5,700 people saw our article last week, with dozens of people commenting and providing their suggested locations, so thank you sincerely for that.

The attached letter was written and posted first class today, 19th July 2018. We'll keep you posted with their response.

DEMOLITION OF CLYDEVIEW SHOPPING CENTRE (East)
End of an Era

It's the end of an era in Blantyre today, Thursday 19th July 2018, as contractors commence the actual demolition of Clydeview Shopping Centre.

Glasgow Road and Low Blantyre is set to be transformed as the eastern side of the 38 year old shopping centre is pulled down to be replaced by modern units with new landscaped pedestrian spaces.

Demolition of the old brick building started at the south eastern side near Logan Street around 9am this morning, as captured here in this video.

Have your say. Are you sad to see the shops go? What are your hopes (and fears) for this space?

OFFICERS DAY OUT
Wednesday 18th July 2018

We've received reports of TV licensing officers coming to Blantyre doors earlier today, legit enough with lanyards and ID.

Also Traffic Police were sitting at the junction of Stoneymeadow Road, just off the A725 slip looking for speeding traffic coming off the Expressway. Please slow down and be mindful of speed limits on approaches into Blantyre.
