Some extra content about history in other parts of Scotland! In 1296, during his invasion of Scotland, King Edward I of England marched into Scone Abbey and took something priceless—the Stone of Scone, also known as the Stone of Destiny. This ancient relic had been used for centuries in the coronation of Scottish kings.
Edward had it transported to Westminster Abbey, where he had it built into the English coronation throne—a clear message that Scotland was under English rule. It remained there for over 700 years.
The theft of the stone became one of the most symbolic acts in the long conflict between the two nations. In 1996, the UK Government finally returned the stone to Scotland. Today, it sits in Edinburgh Castle—until the next coronation, when tradition demands its presence.
🪨 Did Edward I steal power… or just a symbol?
