In the same year, the 17,000th family moved to East Kilbride which was expanding rapidly. Growth in new housing was also taking place in Blantyre that year as the Burnbrae Road, Winton Crescent and associated side streets were built, along with a few other new housing locations in the town. These were all ‘homes for the future’, often with more than 1 bedroom, indoor toilets, gardens and modern conveniences.
