Blantyre’s Festive Warmth

I finish up from work today for Christmas holidays. So, today’s scheduled post has a festive feel. A little poem of my own for all you kind people following this ever growing Blantyre Project entering it’s 14th incredible year!

Beneath the winter’s starlit glow,
Where Clyde’s cold waters softly flow,
Blantyre sleeps, its past still near,
Our tales retold, stories held so dear.

The mill stands silent, wrapped in frost,
A pit memorial to lives once lost,
Common hands that toiled, both young and old,
Through hardship fierce, their sacrifices bold.

The miners’ lamps, their gentle light,
Once pierced the darkest Blantir night,
Voice now an echo, faint yet strong,
In Christmas cheer, in festive song.

We gather close, the hearth burns bright,
Honouring kin in nostalgic light,
For those we’ve loved and hold in prayer,
Their spirits linger everywhere.

So raise a glass for Blantyre’s past,
Its mighty soul, its roots so vast,
This Christmas time, let’s make this call,
It’s love & kindness that warms us all.
