1977 St Blane’s Primary School

Back to the end of the school year in 1977. This was the St Blane’s Primary School football team in season 1976/1977.

It was actually a double celebration for the young footballers of St. Blane’s R.C.Primary School. They had won both the Hamilton District Primary Schools’ League and the County Schools’ Cup.

The school’s proud Headmaster, Mr Thomas O Neill, said that week: “This is the best year we have ever had on the football field.” Mr O’Neill was also full of praise for the team’s manager, teacher Peter Gollogly.

Peter could have been suffering from split loyalties the day his boys met St. Anne’s Primary, Hamilton, in the Hamilton District Championship decider. Peter’s father, Vincent Gollogly, is St. Anne’s headmaster Peter didn’t let this fact influence him and his team coasted to a 5-1 win.

Recognise anybody? These localkids would now presumably be in their late 50’s.
