This weeks heritage video explores Blantyre during the 1930’s. The decade before war, sweeping changes to homes and living conditons. Slum clearances were underway and Blantyre had many new homes.
Mining was still a way of life for many men and boys, but recreation, laying out parks in High and Low Blantyre saw enjoyng outdoors more popular than ever. As visitors flocked in massive numbers to a newly opened David Livingstone Centre, trams trundled up Glasgow Road for the last time, not surviving three decades.
All the photos you see in this video are Blantyre places and people. I’m fairly sure almost all of those people are no longer here, so this video is also a triibute to families who were loved dearly. I enjoyed making this and hope you enjoy watching.
