How simple things were in the days before phone or email!

On the rear of this “Stonefield, Blantyre” tram postcard it is addressed to Gavin Millar, Grain Merchant esq, Strathaven. The message beside it reads “You might send one barrel treacle to H (High) Blantyre at once and oblige. Alex Craig.” Can you imagine ordering your goods and services this way (and the problems it would have caused if not received)

The postcard looks like 07, i.e 1907 although the photo on the front dates from 1905.
