The Abandoned Railway Station Plans in Blantyre

In April 1892, the Hamilton Herald newspaper told of new plans in Blantyre for a brand new railway station to be laid out.

A third railway station for Blantyre, situated to the north of High Blantyre Station was to be built where the East Kilbride and Strathaven lines converged at Hunthill (where now is the top of Stonefield Crescent).

The station, it was said at the time, would be of great advantage to the people of Blantyre allowing them to disembark and change from one line to another, without having to walk outside of any station. However, there was never a station in this location, so clearly these plans were abandoned.

I suspect the expense or simply due to the fact the other station was SO close by saw common sense prevail. Had the station been built, it would have been located next to Mains Old Place.
